Research Topic

Miniaturization of Planar Inverted-F Antennas using Fractal Geometry.

Research Abstract

The Planar Inverted-F Antenna is the most ubiquitous antenna in portable electronic communication devices such as smart phones, laptops, tablets etc. As the consumer market makes a shift from portables to wearables, there is an increasing focus towards miniaturization of antennas. Smaller antennas are easier to integrate, do not obstruct ventilation and are less likely to undergo deformation. My research is geared towards exploring the use of fractal geometries to develop miniaturized PIFAs for wearable devices. Through this research I hope to develop a sound theoretical basis for understanding the miniaturization effect of Fractal geometries and develop equivalent models for various Fractal PIFAs. Apart from reducing the size, the behavior of fractal antennas in close proximity to the human body is also of interest to me.
