Abstract
Process mining is emerging as a valuable combination of tools and techniques to be deployed in business environments. However, when dealing with these real-world scenarios, the encountered problems might be slightly different from what academics think. It is possible to identify three different circumstances where problems emerge: data preparation, the actual mining and the results interpretation. We’ll present possible solutions for instances of problems for each of these categories. Some outcomes emerging from the application of process mining techniques will be analyzed and reported as well. These outcomes involve two real-world event logs, one from the health-care and another from the educational domain. These examples will be used to show the potential of process mining techniques.
