Corso di “Cloud computing and virtualized data centers”
Proff. C.Mastroianni, D. Laganà

Abstract

The course will introduce the technologies adopted by modern Cloud solutions, specifically: virtualization, orchestration of virtual machines, workload redistribution in multi-cloud environment, definition and management of light virtual machines, i.e., containers. The course will describe innovative techniques that are able to optimize the allocation and scheduling of virtual machines in data centers. The use of mathematical models and formalisms will be illustrated with concrete examples. The course will discuss the results obtained in real use cases, and the benefits achieved in terms of performance improvement, energy saving, reduction of carbon footprint, load balancing, and cost reduction. Finally, the course will illustrate the advantages of the hybrid cloud paradigm that, through a flexible and agile integration of private and public Cloud infrastructures, improves the management of complex scenarios.
